A Question Of Seamanship. February YM

Of course, being American, neither car was great going around corners! :)

Quite they ...erm drift

We drove down that Street once, but I never knew that the sequence was cut in so many places. Lovely place San Francisco; windsurfed off Stinson Beach many a time and there's always a nice beach - water's as cold as here mind!

Two streets I visited when they were still raving bonkers were Boogie Street in Singapore and Straight Street (The Gut) in Malta.

Just sayin. ;)

Another photo taken the same day which will bring back memories.

There had been a big storm the night before so when we took the boat trip out to the Golden Gate Bridge the Pacific rollers rolling in under the bridge were amazing. I've never seen anything like that in the Med! :)

(back to boats and the sea .........)

Does the Mustang have a hand start?

No. but you can bump start a standard one. Used to have a Morris minor which had a hand crank, Came in handy a few times. This begs the question perhaps a Morris Minor would be better for dealing with vampires. Unless it was raining.

I can't immediately find it, and the one I've seen wasn't a singlehander, but there's video of this somewhere on YouTube.

I cannot find a video, but a boom start method was devised by Michel Desjoyeaux sailing PRB in the 2000-2001 Vendee Globe, after his starter motor burned out. I think it involved letting the mainsheet run, rather than gybing, but I might be wrong.

Everyone is aware that the failed engine thing was just a device to set up a scenario where you're faced with a decision to carry on with a plan or change it because of lack of power and failing electrics, right?

It's a similar thing to how a scenario for "A Question of Vampire Slaying" which starts "Chet and Mary-Lou's car breaks down. They have no cellular signal but Mary-Lou suggests that the creepy old house on the hill they passed a mile back might have a phone..." probably isn't looking for a run-down of how you'd fault find on a '75 mustang with the complete set of snap-on tools which you always carry with you....

Brad Majors and Janet Weiss. was it a Mustang? no vampires it was aliens.

What made the question interesting to me in the first place. Was my completely different thoughts to the "Real" question.
Loose power, Loose GPS and Plotters. What would you do? Apparently it is not a big concern to most of us.
