A question for the Volvo experts

In my Volvo owners manual, under the maintenance schedule section there is the following:

Re-tighten the steering helm screws every 200 hours or once a year.

Can anyone tell me what this means?

The engine is a Kad32

I would have thought that where the steering rack fits to the helm boss is attached by four nuts and bolts , the nuts are nylock type but should be checked once in a while ?

Its the two allen bolts that sit in a round bushing above the drive, and connect it to the steering helmet.

As Spannerman has already stated it is the 2 allen screws that attach the steering helmet to the outdrive upper gear head. The torque loading to check them with is 35Nm.

Would that be the two allen bolts that you can see inside part 18 of the following diagram?

And does it just mean to check that they are tight?

Also why do they need re-tightening, do they work loose?

Yes, those are the 2 allen screws that need to be check tightened.
However, for the check to be carried out every 200 hours for the average boater this would be 4 years, VP recommend changing the bellows every 2 years so these screws would be coming out anyway, always use plenty of grease on them and the surrounding area (sounds a bit rude). I change mine every year as I don't believe it's worth the risk, anyway the clips nearly always need changing due to corrosion and it's not much difference in price between a complete bellows kit and just the clips.
