Went thru Whitchurch this morning on Self Service at 10:00..

Lockie was there but doing the garden and been told he will have no Summer Assistant this year so as he cannot do both...

Sign of the times I guess.

Boveney, likewise.

Wednesday, the lock keeper was doing his planting (whilst keeping an eye open for any traffic build up), but I did then find out from a very reliable source that some plonker at EA with clearly no knowledge of boating or the Thames decided to arrange for their plants to be delivered just before the Whitsun Bank Holiday!!
He had 2 choices, with again no assistant, to plant over the Bank Holiday which may have been viewed as a tad unkind by the boaters, or after and before they all died.
Another insight into EA lack of thought.

Well at least the buttons worked for you.

A couple of weeks ago while embarking on my annual journey to another sort of ditch, I came upon Sandford lock at 17:50.
No staff.
No 'leccy
Hand wound hydraulics an absolute pain-in-the fundament - as no one in EA can be bothered to adjust the system to make handwinding geared to the actual gates / sluices. (That's the benefit of hydraulics, reasonably easy to size equipment to actual needs).

If they hadn't diverted the footpath I'd have left the top gate open.

Obviously no Plan B, or nobody gives a poo for users.

Never mind they'll have to drain the river as part of young Cameron's cuts..
