A project idea

Buy an old grp yacht say 26 footer cut the deck off and bond and bolt in place a beam shelf.From that point on fit out as a wooden boat.There are several nice looking hulls of a traditional style that have boring grp decks and cabins but with this brilliant plan you get the integrity of a grp hull and a nice traditional deck and cabin with attendant hatches portholes etc

Or buy a beautiful composite Twister. GRP hull and deck, timber coachroof and cockpit.

People seem to have enough trouble keeping the rain out of a GRP deck.
But I did once consider building a cabin on a flush-decked race boat.

I'd miss the nicely radiused corners of a good GRP moulded deck.

Alternatively buy a boat that the coachroof looks as if it's built of wood, but is in fact GRP (Samphire 26) -

Why would you want to take off a nice, low maintenance deck/coachroof and replace it with nasty high maintenance wood ?

Many years ago I had a nice wooden boat; I spent all hours trying to keep the water out, coming through the decks. Wood is nice to look at provided that someone else looks after it.
