"...a Porsche and a Hallberg-Rassy...."

Can I approach this another way (and a couple of posters may be able to help),

What is the car equivalent of the Starlight (35 or 39); we don't all buy cars to match the character of the boat but would like to know what does match the Starlight :)
I know of a very good 35 for sale if anyone fancies one.

Hmm, something they don't make any more. Saab?

Not bad, what about a Jag estate, or a BMW 525 estate, the old 6 cyl diesel? Estate for the great cruising boats they are, but with a good turn of speed?

Rover 2000

Alright I know there is a time differential, but by 1990 when Starlight started ( IIRC), there weren't many British owned car manufacturers left.

Interesting reading here - shows different people's mental valuations of different brands. And the funny thing is that they see bigger differences in performance than really exist. Our family car is a Merc but in every day use is it any better than a Ford. Is an HR used as most of us would use it, any better than a Bav? And what really is the point of a Bentley on traffic choked roads?

Best example of this is Harley Davidson. £10k for a pretty indifferent motorcycle plus £10k for the image and brand name.

Well, it wasn't my friend. Just his first look. I persuaded him to go for the Malo 37 he had previously viewed!
Yes, I know it wasn't him and I hope I didn't imply that it was. It's an odd story but I didn't want to give too much detail. The current owners are very decent people, possibly too decent for their own good.

I dont buy the AWB distinction. An HR is an AWB. It has a fairly standard hull design, is white, is GRP, is single mast . Sure its nicely finished inside and is definitely a superior AWB but an AWB nevertheless.

If you like the distinction between say Bav and HR is similar to that between Renault and Merc. HR isnt special and neither is Merc. If you want special, the boating equivalent of say Bentley or Ferrari then you have to go Swan or similar.

+1 as far as you go.. but if you want the equivalent of a hand-made Isotta-Fraschini, or a unique racing Bugatti, you need performance AND pedigree, like an ocean-going gaff cutter such as Vixen (featured in this month's Classic Boat mag).
My boat is one of her six sisters, so I am able to write impartially ?

Were all seven built in Norway, Jerry, or is yours the only one built there?
