A non mobo vs raggie thread

Had a similar one yesterday, was heading up channel in a stinker, and saw 2 yachts beating south. Made a slight alteration to port about a mile off, aiming to pass astern. As I approached their track, they kept going, and only tacked once I was clear passed. Just when you think you have the world figured out...

Had a total shock on Saturday.

Saw the Sunsail mob running down to Cowes so altered course to get to the Island side in plenty of time, clear of them. Not a single one of them shouted "We're racing" or altered course in a stupid way.

What is the world coming to when Sunsail don't misbehave.

Saturday, making a complete horlicks of getting back to my berth, man from a mobo put his G&T down and came to catch my lines. And no, I was nowhere near his gelcoat, so there was nothing in it for him, except a smile and a thank you.

I blame this hot weather. We must all be catching the relaxed med vibe.

I'll think you will fine we call you "stinkys" not "mobo's".

SIr, you may call us what you like as long as it is done with a smile

I think the clue is the ' slight alteration of course '; it should be made obvious what you're doing with a deliberate course change, if just for a few minutes, if in a potential collision situation I sometimes make a drastsic course change for a minute to show which way I intend to go.

Not doing so could spoil your day or even cancel it entirely.

Allegedly

The other day an Anderson 22 was overtaking a planing Mobo and because the Anderson realised he was overtaking, the Anderson gave way to the Mobo AND gave a friendly wave.

The Mobo owner didn't even mind the wash

I was replying to a post with what I hope was a seamanlike helpful answer, sorry your Universal Translator doesn't include that.

so what you're saying is the yotties were only accidentally considerate because the mobo didn't make his intentions clear, if he had been clear and they knew where he was going they could have been properly inconsiderate????

You are just not on the same page as everyone else here!!

:)

For some reason my mental picture of this has the Anderson up on foils, like an International Moth:

Can anyone good with Photoshop do us a Foiling Anderson picture? Or perhaps one of Salty's John's marvellous sketches? :)
