A nice surprise!

The Daily Mail's article classes sperm whales as "fish". Normally one learns about mammals and fish at primary school. It goes a long way to show the level at the Daily Mail.

Very unusual that they asked you first! The Daily Fail is notorious for illegally copying anything they find online and like the look of, then grudgingly paying as little as they can get away with to the small proportion that challenge them. Happened to a colleague of mine (who was one of the small proportion, natch).

It's the class action against them in the us that has made them think twice..... And lots of guys here in the uk who have objected.

The Daily Wail. Deep joy. I can see it now...

"This video, shot by Mr Halcyon Yachts from the steering wheel of his £53000 luxury sail-yacht, clearly shows the lengths illegal immigrants are now going to to enter Great Britain. Dressed in a rubber suit clearly meant to emulate a lesser spotted bottle nose whale fish, he swam past the rest of the European Union and it's draconian fishing quotas and was last seen in Dover looking for the job centre and a life on benefits. Speaking from her £225,000 home which has been significantly devalued by this plague of fishy benefits cheats descending on the area, local resident Mavis Phillips said "Well I think it's absolutely disgusting and I'd like to ask Mr Camerclegg what he's doing about it".

:p

Reading The Times one day, as one does, and browsing through the obituaries to see if any of my old pals had fallen off the perch (as they do), I was somewhat surprised to see a large picture in the middle of a half page obit.
The reason why I was surprised is that it was from my website. It was a scan of a photo of a project dating from the 1950s.
I couldn't claim copyright on the photo [although I have permission to reproduce Crown Copyright material on said website], but when I contacted said newspaper, I got a 'So what?' type of response.
They were slightly defensive, but I had no real grounds for complaint as I didn't have copyright of the image. However, I did think it rather bad manners to reproduce it without even asking as to its provenance.
People nowadays think anything on the internet is fair game. You were lucky they asked you!
