Our latest yacht delivery film is a bit different to normal... We are en route from Hamble to the Caribbean on a Lagoon 42. The skipper and first mate are both very camera shy, but this is made up for by the confidence of the deck hand!

Please have a watch and let me know what you think? Some familiar places for most of you I imagine...

They sail from Lanzarote today. Part two will be out around Christmas time.

Many thanks,

Pete

I hope the deckhand will be mildly afflicted (silenced) by mal de mer for the next passage. Less of him, is definitely more enjoyable.

If he is a deckhand, why aren't there any neat action sequences of him doing stuff on deck? Most of the connective sequences seem to be shot lazily through the saloon windows or downwards over the side.

The best Youtube vids don't feature anyone presenting tediously to camera...those sections are edited out. This guy might be Robin Knox-Johnson as a deckhand, but he doesn't add anything as a presenter. Some of what he said would definitely be interesting without the unappealing distraction of his appearing on the screen, chatting away apparently unscripted and unedited.

That's the main point - edit out all superfluous shots of him, and edit what he says - then add the relevant minimum of his commentary as a voice-over, so we can learn from his distilled description while enjoying the footage.

Wow... massive opening PWS.

;)

Tighten up the edit big time, Skip the PWS’s.. run time no more than 180 seconds please!

I wasn't sure from the title if this was going to be a video clip, or something about some fancy new sticky back plastic.

+1 for the above comments about tightening up the edit.

And get a dead cat for a plug-in microphone to mitigate wind noise on your recordings (and before anyone reports me to the RSPCA, it's shorthand for a fluffy cover...). Mic rumble from wind is highly irritating.

Nice to see you trying something different - a lot will depend on who your particular audience is for the film. If it's for the motley crew in here, it needs much more sailing and less waffle. If it's for potential clients, then I'd want something that really underlines professionalism...

I've always been a big fan of your videos - until now. This one is utterly dreadful. Awful sound quality. Crass commentary. Don't think the jerky chart overlays help much either. My wife overheard me watching it full-screen on YouTube and actually said "What the hell are you watching?"

I really like the chart overlays, but no wind noise please - not only intrusive but also affects the general sound levels.

I would prefer more on board/on deck action to give some idea of what sailing a boat like this is like.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all your comments. All taken onboard and relayed to the cameraman!

If you found it a bit full on and need to wind down then please relax to this one:

Pete

Just seen this video (I think ad blocker was blocking it before or something).

SUBLIME. BEAUTIFUL.

Better than stuff on TV.

Appears to be supreme skill with the drone too.

Well done Pete.

It must be catching, as we have just shot a different style of film too.

We had a 74ft Schooner for sale on the Isle of Wight and were preparing to do our usual interior flythrough filming, but the yacht went under offer before we could do the shoot.

However the new owner wanted to sea trial her and check the sail handling, so we found ourselves on an almost deserted Solent, with very light airs, a crisp colbalt blue November sky and a shot lot of sails instead.

An unexpected shoot, but great fun.

I found the crew descriptions wanting mostly for conviction, accuracy and confidence. At some points he was struggling to convey meaning and it came across as amateurish, if I compare with your usual offerings. If a narrative is being offered it should flow well.

Having said that, a big thanks for posting the films, very enjoyable and and of a quality that makes me want to watch to the end (except for the current offering).

jonic - more boat and less sail if you are going to use this medium as an introduction to your company's services and image - which I think you should. I get that it may not have been the purpose of the film. A short length of quality film showing the type of yacht you are brokering is a powerful message at very low cost.

Watched the 'new' video style, i think most previous comentators have summed it up. I did like the chart overlays but being pretty deaf the wind noise was just a killer for me, less of the presenter more of where he is presenting from !!

Big fan of the usual drone footage you post and the 'calming' vid you have put up i have seen before and its a real cracker :encouragement:

Hi Old Boots, those are on our Youtube Channel - this was just a one off fun one as the boat is not avaliable now anyway.

I delibrately didn't direct link to our normal brokerage videos as they are real live ads. However a bit of searching through our pages will get you there if you want to have a look. I won't link to them here as I think someone has already complained about this thread as well?

We use video a lot now and it is very effective.
