It looks rather under-canvassed and why the high aspect ratio Bermudan rig?

Auxiliary sailing ships have been tried before and were not successful because what would be usable cargo space is taken up by an engine that mostly isn't doing anything. Also you'd need to carry at least two engineers who would not have much to do.

Still, it's good that old ideas can be revisited and possibly brought up to date.

If anyone follows the auto industry news they will probably be having a good laugh at this. Renault (15% government-owned) are the major shareholders in alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi - trouble is they're also the least profitable (by far) and the French (Brazilian-born but with French nationality and, most importantly, Renault-appointed) CEO Karlos Ghosn apparently "forgot" to declare about $80MM of his income. Investigations are turning up a few new items as well though absolutely nothing is proven yet. The alliance was a bit stretched already before Ghosn was charged because of the relatively poor preformance of Renault compared to it's oriental counterparts and it's a bit if a mess at the moment.

In future Renault may not be building cars if they don't go careful, never mind ships. It only exists at all because of the French state support - it's a bit of a French British Leyland at the moment.
