My boat needs a bit more HP. The Ford Dorset 120hp will be coming out.

This has just been delivered. Its a Cummins 6BT genset engine. I will need to move the turbo to the alternate position, move the header tank, little bit of work on the sump. The big job is that I will need to change the injection pump.

The goal is either 220hp with no charge cooler or 250hp with a charge cooler, at 2800rpm.

You got some bloody muscles if you're going to pick that lot up and carry it into the garage. Your deliveryman sure is taking this distance thing to heart

I can’t wait to follow this thread ?

nice!

will you just mark/remove inj pump yourself and sent it of for tuning (or whatnot) and replace, or is it more complicated than this?
will you have access to the boat to do all that now or wait for CV restrictions to clear?
btw, I vote 250 with cc :D

If 250 is enough then do that with the jwac... No seawater aftercooler to worry about / maintain every 2 year (and needs to be done properly on the bench) not sure on the cost of the jwac vs the sw aftercooler.. but the sw aftercoolers are horrendously expensive!

What injector pump is on it at the mo? Nippon? When you say change do you mean to Bosch or just change the tuning?

Has it got the water-cooled manifold and high mount turbo? Can you keep the turbo up high to get it further away from the waterline?

It's done some hours.

Got it in the garage.

Now is the time to do any work whilst you can walk around it and get at everything easily!

i cant tell as on the phone so pictures not great but paint it before installing. Will make finding leaks so much easier (not trying to teach you to suck eggs - just thinking aloud as to what I’d do).

44k hours @1500 constant rpm I guess, or is it more?

Would make sense not to to touch it on the grounds that if it's OK at 44k h, another couple of k wont make much of a difference
OK the more rpm/load will do some I guess...

Its where I asked him to put it.

Needs a change of pump and the injector pipes, maybe injectors too.

Erm, you seem to have missed off the 370hp version.

Call me Napier.

Will be following with interest, what sort of speed do you expect ?, hope it goes smoothly (y) 250hp btw.

I hope so too!

300hp with the sea water after-cooler. I've got. a brand new Sherwood pump for one if you need it. Negotiable!

You keep trying to sell me that pump! Not cheap enough.....

Yes, I guess JWAC.

Stanadyne 1500rpm pump.

No, will need to move turbo to low mount position. Tony Athens always makes a point of turbo height, but it is what it is.

That’s a very well run in engine! Does it need an overhaul or is it good to go?

I reckon it'll need a refresh. We'll see. No liners for this block, but there is some 0.5mm oversize pistons if I have to do it.

Quite right. Its going in the boat and staying in for 20 years I hope.

Without liners they are regarded as disposable engines but forty four thousand hours says it all. Cummins rule!

If you need any details of my 210 HP 6BTs PM me.

How complicated is it to fit the after cooler, and I assume this would also require a different fuel pump from the 210 HP to get the 250HP ?

I would seriously consider this mod to mine.

I note your's has a distributor pump, I assume that is a CAV. Mine has CAV, but I appreciate there are lots of variants.
