A motorboat anchor thread…

I currently have a 25kg stainless delta anchor with 12mm galvanised chain on a 50ft fly, displacement of 20 tonnes. I havent had any issues BUT that is probably due to chain weight. Currently looking at another boat with 32kg stainless ultra anchor but 9.5mm of chain on a 55ft displacement of 31 tonnes. Alot of manufacturers seem to offer 9.5mm chain up to 70ft.

So should I get 12mm chain and maybe stainless as well instead of the std 9.5mm galvanised?

Depends on chain grade. In your situation I’d look at Grade 70 chain (see Jimmy Green) as you could downsize chain, save weight but maybe increase chain length and strength.

The 9.5mm chain as std will be up to spec but with 12mm chain (assuming same spec) I can probably let out slightly less when anchoring. So as an example letting out say 12m of 9.5mm would give me same hold as say 10m of 12mm. Or if they spec 9.5mm chain just keep that?

I swapped out the (way too small) factory fit 15kg Delta on our Princess V45, to a 25kg Epsilon. So far it has worked faultlessly-always in sand. 50m 8mm chain.
