A mobo family\'s journey to the dark side
Sunday
Left the south coast to drive to Troon, lots of sunshine until 40 miles from Troon,
then heaven opened and lots of thunder and lightning.
Is this dire warning of what happens when crossing over?
Monday
Our instructor Steve after doing the safety briefing suggest we do an engine check.
Can't find the engines, oops!! its the little blue lump/forums/images/icons/blush.gif
Spend the morning getting hang of boat, then stop for lunch.
In the afternoon head out of Troon, enough wind to hoist the flappy bits so off we go to Milport.
The oilies are getting a good testing/forums/images/icons/frown.gif
On the way to Milport, Fred jumps overboard, so we practice MOB then once he's securely lashed on board , pick up a mooring buoy
Tuesday
It's still raining/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif, head off to Rothesay, hoist the flappy bits again, but after being on various tacks and ending up going backwards, furled the genny, hoisted the cone and started the engine and motorsailed to Rothesay.
Wednesday
It's still p*****g down, no wind/forums/images/icons/mad.gif
So after bit of pontoon bashing head of round Bute to Tarbet motoring all the way.
Wonder if I could shoehorn a couple of D12's into this thing ang get it planning./forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Steve's not impressed with that suggestion/forums/images/icons/frown.gif
Sun came out in afternoon though so everyone's feeling a bit better.
Thursday
Forecast mainly fair, occasional showers and winds F3-4.
Left Tarbet, it's p*****g down again/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif, but least enough wind to get the flappy bits hoisted again/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Fred decides to jump ship again(don't think he likes moboer), Steve says engine's not working, so need to get him with the flappy bits still up/forums/images/icons/shocked.gif.
After successfully recovering Fred, headed for Largs, wind gusting to 35 knots, still raining.
Arrive in Largs, everyone heads for a hot shower to warm up.
Sun then came out and some blue sky, winds at 25knots, had some dinner then decide to do a night sail back to Troon. Didn't rain at all until safely tied up back at Troon/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Friday
Sun's out but no wind again.
Thanks to Steve at Secondwind sailing for an interesting and enjoyable if rather wet week
