During the week while out I saw a family out with a load of children playing in a small Rib. They must of had some other peoples children with them because there were to many for the young couple to of had. Most of the children were wearing life jackets but because they didn't have enough they had put the smallest toddler girl in a DOG life jacket!!!! If she had gone in she would have floated face down in the water for sure. Some people have no idea.

There are available around here a lot of devices for small children supposedly to save their lives. Little blow up bands around the upper arm are one but the one that gets me is the foam bubble that is attached to the back. I guess the theory is that if the child is in trouble at least they won't sink and can be fished out of the water rather than without flotation they would sink to the bottom. So the dogs LJ would be no worse than these products sold for and used by parents of young kids. I have a collection of children's lifejackets of all sorts. They tend to be cheap at the local market what you call a car boot sale. I would certainly worry about other people's kids if their own parent is not nearby.

We have armbands here; haven't seen the bubble that goes on the back but then I don't really have any recent experience of young children swimming. However, are you sure it's not meant as an aid to learning to swim? Help with buoyancy a bit while learning to make the proper arm movements? In that situation you wouldn't want something that pinned the kid on their back or vertically in the water.
