If you look at marinetraffic .com the track from CT to St Helena is one of the quieter parts of the S Atlantic. ( 'TwoBoats' mid upper is Ascension Island)

My first 6 years in the day job were mainly spent running between SA and Europe with one round trip from CT to the Americas - northbound Walvis Bay to Santa Marta , Colombia. South bound direct New York - Capetown. Saw a ship on my watch first day out. Then nothing - zero - nada except for the morning we passed St Helena. No alteration of course, 21 days at about 14 knots. There has always been a huge void in my memory re that trip as there was quite simply nothing to remember.

Might as well stop there. And probably spend a bit of time along the north east coast of south America before heading to the Caribbean. Had yellow fever shot before leaving uk

Jacare is a popular landfall for boats coming up from SA. Then fantastic north setting current when heading north. Best I had was 70Nm for free just from the current on a days run.
