Hi Guys & Girls

My Name is Corlett and I am new here and I hope to learn a lot.

I am in need ( if possible ) of a little help in identifying this fiberglass life boat I am salvaging / restoring.

It came from a 1960´s Norwegian ferry. I have been trying to find the manufacturer so I can restore it accordingly and legalise it in Portugal...

She was originally white and I believe the id tag below shows date of manufacture and size ( metric ), I don´t have photos of her right side up but the inside does not help much for she has been gutted, all I have are aluminium ( foam filled ) flotation devices...

best regards

Corlett

Suggest you contact the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club http://www.icoyc.org/Default.aspx?p=DynamicModule&pageid=314613&vnf=1

They may be able to help or give you the right place to contact as Norway has an excellent historic records of all shipping.

Good luck
Mike

Random thoughts: It is very small for a ferry lifeboat at 4.93 mt. and the transom stern recess indicates an outboard motor, also not likely for a lifeboat. Possible a crew ship/shore tender?
I hope you have good connections. Legalising that in Portugal sounds a bit of a headache. You might try getting a SSR registration if you have UK connections.... I did that for my little dinghy I used there. It had no papers and came from Zimbabwe..

Looks like you have a good lead then. Still looks like a crew shuttle rather than a lifeboat. Probably the lifeboats were inflatables. The boat has/had a bow door? So a sort of roll on off island ferry?

yes, she is a ro ro ferry she also did have a inflatable but only a small MOB man over board, the little boat in question is definately a lifeboat for she has aluminium flotation tanks in her filled with foam, original colour white rather than orange, which I believe became compulsary in the early 80´s

The only inconvenience is that here in Portugal to legalize it I need a manufacturer, which is proving hard to find..

:encouragement:

If you found a long-defunct Norwegian lifeboat manufacturer, it would be hard to prove it wasn't them. ;)
