A List Of Marine Sealants

A contact with his boat in USA had his keel rebedded using Pettit 7076 2 part Flexpoxy. Supposed to be the best and latest available. I have to say that reading their literature this would not have been my first choice but it seems many use it.

It is available on Ebay UK from a US source but the shipping cost is £160!!!! Also listed on Amazon but currently unavailable.

CT1 is a good sealant/adhesive and it stays usable for a long time after opening the tube. Around £10-£11 a tube and readily avaliable.

It's been added to the list- the only thing that's annoying me is they don't say what it's made from. I can't see it on the datasheet anyway ?!

Here is a what I've got so far but if you have any that are worth adding, please drop me comment :encouragement:

Your list doesn't seem to include ordinary silicone sealant, which has lots of boaty applications and is cheap and cheerful. Unlike many of the sealants, it won't adversely affect plastics, so it's recommended by many manufacturers including Nasa and Spinlock.

I always keep a tube of Fernox LS-X on the boat; it's basically silicone sealant in a handy tube with a screw top. Easy to use and can be stored for ages. About a fiver from plumbers' merchants or Screwfix - http://www.screwfix.com/p/fernox-ls-x-leak-sealer-50ml/23614 Expensive for the volume, but it's convenient and doesn't seem to go off as quickly in storage as cartridges.

I spoke with the Aquaseal distributor a few days ago. They explained that Sika had bought out the marine side of Aquaseal 18 months ago. Sika advised me they do not produce those old Aquaseal products any more. So as I understand it any Mbond(?) 295 or 395 would be date expired stock older than 18 months.

ahh peprhaps its best to remove that one from the list. Plentty of replacemants that's for sure.

PBO tested a range of sealants and the evostick one was almost the same as sika 291 in their tests. It equalled it in everything except shear strength.

Foulkes offer the Puraflex 40 for £6.50 a tube.

Am I the only one who stores part opened cartridge tubes in the freezer to keep the stuff fresh ? SWMBO sort of approves / puts up with it !
