Eh - Mark is currently the waterway manager and he's full time..... I think he's well aware of the river conditions and weather - aren't we all, it's b***** dreadful! Everything crossed for an indian summer.

GAUHATI, India (AP) — Monsoon floods have left nearly 80,000 people stranded and dependent on emergency aid for food and water in India's remote northeast, an official said Wednesday.
Authorities used motorboats to rush aid to flood victims in more than 70 inundated villages on Majuli, one of Asia's largest freshwater islands located in the Brahmaputra River, said A. Baruah, a local government official in the state of Assam.

There have been no deaths reported so far on the island, Baruah said.

Heavy monsoon rains have been lashing the region since Monday, and officials warn that more rain will fall in the flood-prone region in the coming days.

Last year, floodwaters submerged nearly half of Majuli island and forced up to 30,000 people to flee to higher ground. The area is nearly 250 miles east of Gauhati, Assam state's capital.

time to update our commonly used phrases i guess. perhaps we want someone elses summer, as long as it's better than ours, and ideally during the actual summer.

An Egyptian summer perhaps? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lets conveniently ignore the sandstorms, Israeli tanks and stuff eh? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'd always understood the term 'Indian Summer' probably derives from the American Indians rather than the curry eaters.

Bit of history and conjecture HERE

"the most popular belief of Indian Summer is as follows...It is an abnormally warm and dry weather period, varying in length, that comes in the autumn time of the year, usually in October or November, and only after the first killing frost/freeze. There may be several occurrences of Indian Summer in a fall season or none at all."

Unfortunately not. Looks as if I will be coming up to Windsor on the Saturday morning. Do I take it that you are not going to the ATYC rally then? If you are might be able to meet up on your way back.

No giving it a miss this year, I am currently working around the corner at West India Dock and hence sick of the sight of the place!!

Also due to floods earlier in the year have not seen much of the Thames this year so having a quiet week upriver.

See you at the bash.
