This week my YC has been running our cadet regatta. We have had up to 40 boats out every day with our "little shavers" racing. Age ranges from 8 to 17 years, toppers, lasers, bites, pico's etc. They have had great fun and generally wrecked the club.
2 or 3 races every day where the RO bellows at them to do penalty turns and then gives them advice on the best way to sail, support boats giving blatant advice (outside assistance) as to how they should be sailing a better course/speed.
They've camped out, played a table tennis competition, dived off the drying out piles, been to the cinema, then ten pin bowling, had master classes on racing rules, tried to sneak in illicit drink, flopped around in the mud, I could go on, but basically they had a great time.
It was good to see ~ young sailors enjoying themselves and making many new friends.
