is enhanced by good service. I've had an ongoing issue with a starter motor for a few months, a mixture of poverty, winter and getting a new kitchen fitted meant that it was a niggle and not a priority until 10 days ago. Gary, 07772020880, was recommended by a friend and he came over, tested everything in situ, diagnosed a completely FUBAR starter motor and sourced a replacement at a very good price indeed. Bless him, he came back to the boat at about 9pm on a Friday evening, armed with the replacement and had it in, tested and approved by 10pm. I saw, and smelled, the dead motor and it was quite vile, water ingress at some time and progressive insulation failure. Excellent service and a very nice chap indeed. I'll be asking him to look at my smoke issue when the wallet has recovered from the starter.
Had a good run to Windsor for a couple of nights with MTYC on The Brocas for the Commodore's Cruise, we had one of the French Bros private hire boats for the reception, first time I have been on one and indeed only the second or thrid time I have been on the river and not at the wheel.
The following week we very lazily pottered up to Henley, my wife could not get leave so just had three children as crew. I reconfirmed my thought that Maidenhead's moorings are a disgrace, most of the rings are missing, and that it is just not worth stopping there. My first time at The Bounty made up for that, I explored their rather fine beer range and then discovered that, of all the flags and ensigns on display, I was sitting under the Totenkopf one (cue remarks of "no mistake there then"!)
Still don't think much of Marlow, but avoided being stung for a tenner so not quite so bad, but seemd a bit shallow. Mind you, it was the only day it really rained, and naturally the wipers stopped working so poor old Dad got a bit soggy.
Henley is sorting itself out for the Regatta, we had a gust on board for the day who has never been up that way before and was fascinated by all the piling and barriers. Probably did not need to drop the arch for the bridge but cowardice prevailed.
When it was sunny, it was glorious, just what boating is all about. Both engines, hot water, charged batteries, just for once almost everything worked
I'll do a few pix when I get them off my phone.
Apart from Oudrageous and All Gold I'm not sure if we saw anybody at all, but waved at everyone anyway, 7 year old girls do a lot of waving.
