I once spent some time on a boat equipped with pocket sprung mattresses throughout, ultimate luxury but expensive at the time.

As time goes on comfort becomes more important but I thought it was too late for me ........however I have just taken delivery of one of these:

Pardon our interruption...

Looks excellent, and reasonably firm, price is a snip. Wish I had done it 30 years ago. Here is a smaller one from the same company, softer but water resist. I think I may have ordered that if I had seen it earlier:

Well worth thinking about at the price, ideal for oldsters etc. Lead time a couple of weeks, seem good people to deal with. No personal interest.

I have been looking at new mattresses for the boat but they all seem very expensive and worry about the damp damaging them. Also the boat bunks are shape and not rectangular like a bed so now down the rabbit hole of replacing the foam which is a pretty deep hole.

The second link shows a waterproof covered one but cant help thinking you would wake up damp

I put an Ikea foam mattress on the boat last year along side a set of Ikea sprung slats. I put it off for ages but turned out both easier than expected and far comfier than expected. ~£150 very well spent indeed.

The berths on our HR have been perfectly comfortable and I never felt the need for a change, but I tend to agree with the late Des Sleightholme that one's priority on a boat should be the pillow.

I had a one piece v berth mattress in a past boat that was made of posh ( blue?) foam . It was very comfortable , remarkably more so than some standard variants.
I imagine that the OPs sprung mattress will be superior again —and able to breath as well.

Foam can produce condensation underneath without slats, vents or more from all our vapour.

The dark arts of a decent nights sleep eh.
How far we have come from a blissful sleep on a vinyl covered bunk wedged against a couple of sailbags after a hard sailing trip , argggh🤩

My Westerly Cirrus had 2” mattresses. When we got a Mystere and could sleep on 4” it seemed like luxury.
