A Good Marine Surveyor Required For Milford Haven Area

Thank you in advance for any and all support in this venture of mine ... as I might be buying a new (to me) Yacht ....

What I am looking for at the moment is a recommendation for a good marine surveyor in the Milford Haven area ... and also any good boat transportation services for a trip from south Wales to Scotland.

I was in the same position five years ago. Forumites recommended Alan Haynes from Lawrenny and I am happy to do the same.

My boat came up by sea, with a delivery skipper from Milford Heaven (who now lives in Vancouver) after rotten weather scuppered two attempts to do it myself. John Shepherd seems well thought of if you're doing it by road.

+1 for Alan Haynes from Lawrenny - very thorough but also sensible and does not try to excessively "cover his back" by identifying things to be done like requiring an unnecessary and additional "professional" gas survey.

That was my experience. He identified a few useful things, all of which the seller (a boatbuilder) was able to fix and in the five years since there have been no nasty surprises. I never actually met him, but he was a pleasure to deal with. I think I paid £10/foot.

I'd recommend Ben Sutcliffe based on my experience with him looking over my Horizon. He's a regular PBO contributor, knows his stuff, was thorough and friendly.

Five years ago I had five quotes from Milford Haven to the Clyde. They were all within a gnat's whisker of a thousand, plus craneage.
