A free night at Woolverston or Chatham until 31/05

As Chatham is particularly bad value for money, that is the one I would choose - haven't been to the dockyards for about 5 years now.

I guess this will be the nautical equivalent of a time share presentation.....

Wonder if I applied for a free berth they would track back and find we had a dispute when they launched and caused damaged (and denied responsibility) to my first boat over 10 years ago - so I didn't pay the outstanding bill in exchange for the repair to the rubbing strake. Not been to a MDL marina since.

Woolverstone used to be one of our favourite weekend destinations in our previous 28 footer, £25ish per night if memory serves. 5 yrs ago we bought the boat of our dreams so popped in for a 3 day stop without checking how much more it would be for 44ft. £56 PER NIGHT! We were straight out of there and into Suffolk Yacht Habour at £28 per night. Never been back to Woolverston since.

we have used Chatham & very nice it is, well appointed facilities but that was £35 2 yrs ago, we arrived late a/n visited the Docks ( well worth it) left late a/n. having managed 2 showers as well so cost not too bad overall

:eek::eek:

Tell me you're making this up.

Strange listening to some of the comments re cost, I know when I moved to Chatham I looked at alternatives, i.e. Gillingham, Ramsgate, Dover all three were fairly close price wise for a year. Have just checked Burnham Yacht harbour.....£800 more expensive than Chatham!

It's the visitors rates that are a bit steep for the area. It's the Solent price structure!

It's tide time and I'm off to Limehouse, the only option for here given the forecast.... Surprisingly they've had a lot of cancellations!

Ah yes, I see. I am not up on the visitors rates but can see paying Solent prices on the east coast would be extortionate.

Have a good sail, I am working this weekend and given the temperatures I am not too disappointed :-)

Cheers Neil!

My family have (again!) earned their 'hero wings' with a 6.15 am start, freezing cold trip to London. On the plus side we can almost lean out of the boat and touch one of Gordon Ramsey's food pubs.....table booked for 7pm.

And 3 nights here on a pontoon berth £84, which undercuts Chatham by a fair bit. A nice welcome pack from the staff, chap in the lock to assist if needed, a clear plan of the marina, eateries/facilities map, gate codes etc.

Recommended. Roughest part of today's trip - tying the fenders on outside - Riverboats doing their best to create the Southern Ocean!
