Hi,

I want to fit my old 1990 Volvo Penta TAMD 61A engines with analogue turbo pressure senders & gauges. Ultimate goal is probably to wire these up to an Actisense EMU-1, but that's for another time.

I think I identified the correct OEM numbers for the right 0-2 bar senders: 866838 and 872196 (see here e.g.) However, these cost a fortune at Volvo Penta directly so I'm trying to find suitable aftermarket devices. VDO wasn't able to directly confirm which of their senders would be compatible with the TAMD 61A/ correspond to the above OEM numbers but advised that suitable senders would likely have a 1/8 NPTF thread. Here my questions:
  1. Anyone here experience with this in the past and able to recommend compatible senders?
  2. Is it reasonable to assume that VDO senders with 0-2 bar pressure and a 1/8 NPTF thread would be compatible, if the thread indeed has that diameter.
  3. And where would these be fitted in a TAMD 61A? Is that the same spot as where the manual pressure tool connects? ChatGPT gave me the intake manifold after the turbo and intercooler or charge air cooler outlet pipe as likely locations. But I wasn't able to confirm this with drawings or pictures and I'm currently nowhere near my boat to have a look myself. Would anyone know where these would go and perhaps even have pictures?
Many thanks in advance,
JMS

Just realized I posted this in the wrong section by mistake. Should this be moved to motor boat @Admin?

Also, perhaps some here has VP TAMD 61A engines with turbo gauges in the cockpit and would be kind enough to send a photo of their senders? That would already help me a lot!

Thks!

I've confirmed the location myself by now using open source information. Sharing this here, in case anyone else is ever looking for this.

Perhaps anyone here could at least confirm my question 2.: that pretty much every turbo pressure gauge should get a reading, so as long as the thread & pressure range (in my case 0-2bar) is correct?

Lastly, will there likely be a reading on the instrument when running a test on the dock/ in neutral? Reason I ask: I have a persisting issue with the starboard turbo (see here) which only appears when boat is in motion/ trying to speed up in the water. When reving up in neutral, everything seems fine and revs go above 2000rpm as they should...

Thank you
