My fantastic experiences of sailing on KATE seems to have come to an end, following Philip Walwyn's untimely passing, as KATE was offered for sale at a significantly reduced price unless . . . (wishful thinking) I could have bought her.

On the positive side, I learned so much about sailing but in reality I am sure that I still only barely scratched the surface, from my late great friend, skipper and sailing mentor, Philip Walwyn for which I am truly grateful and thankful.
I could never have afforded to pay for all that education and experience, much less sailing regularly for eight years on a yacht as magnificent as KATE. It was a fantastic privilege. For that I am truly indebted to Philip.

KATE has been sold.

An end to an era.

A little silver lining:
Following Philip Walwyn's untimely passing, the America's Cup First Rule gaff rigged 1906 designed 12 metre yacht KATE has a new sympathetic custodian.
Understand that she will be given a significant makeover with a number of fitting upgrades, plus she may be moving to San Francisco.

A new era begins.

The first time I saw Kate was at Classics in Antigua. I was really impressed when she did the parade which involves sailing into Elizabeth Harbor in line astern with other priceless classics then turning around and sailing out.

A fine piece of boat and sail handling.
Bear in mind that Philip did that in KATE and does not have an engine.
