...Well subject to the usuals, survey etc.

After a two hour inspection, a great test drive, and some tense negotiations, my shaking right hand wrote out a hefty deposit cheque.

So Moody Blue is finally to be part exchanged for a five year old Gobbi 425, with a pair of KAD 300's.

She is in fairly good nick, but some of the cosmetics may have been a bit neglected, hence she has already had a new canopy and cockpit upholstery.

The dealer has agreed that anything not working will be replaced, and so far we have agreed the following.

New heating system
New fridge
New Saloon TV
New tender winch
New Microwave
New cockpit griddle

Plus other bits and pieces.

So far I am absolutely delighted with the deal, and it just goes to show that there are people out there trying hard to cut a deal, however at no point did I get the impression that he was desperate to sell me this boat, (he's only just got it in).

At the risk of tempting fate I have included a few pics.

Obviously we're still not quite there but fingers crossed this will be mine in about two weeks.

Brilliant, Well done!

Is she on the Thames by any chance? The only reason I ask is did you test drive her at speed. From experience slonking up the river at slow speeds does not do modern Diesel engines any favours!

We love the Gobbi 425, lovely boat and she will be a great aquisition!

Cheers

No she is not on the Thames (I will reveal all the gory details once the deal is finalised) but suffice to say we did get to open her up, and got 32 knots, but we didn't take her all the way.

Forgot to say that part of the negotiation is around an hours warranty on the engines and drives, as a 3 month warranty at this time of year won't be much good. This is to be concluded.

When we were at SIBS, a buddy brought us over to the Atlantis stand to have a look at the 50.

We couldn't help but notice a beautiful sportscruiser in the corner.

Yip, it was a Gobbi 425.

Smashing looking boat with plenty of room to boot. Pics don't do it justice imho.

Hope the deal goes through OK.

Regards,
SV.

Looks very nice - beautiful boat. I'm envious, having been looking at getting one of these before events overtook me.

It's still a possibility for next year. I have a number on file, just in case, and I would be interested to know how you get on.

yeah lovely boat
extemely popular wherever I go
Superb Choice and quite unbeatable in its size range
especially considering this is already a 6 year old design and looking better then ever
something to think for the builders who change models every 2 years....

Look's 'MINT' from the pictures, however you state that quite a few item's are being replaced. Goes to show that you can't judge a boat by pics alone. I'm guessing that the canopy you mentioned being replaced is the one in the pic, and is the new one? (Looks damn tidy IMHO)

Congrats, i'f youd like to exchange for some body organs I have a good kidney going cheap /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes you're right the canopy and upholstery have already been done (he wouldn't let me view it until they had).

As for body parts I am currently minus an arm and a leg, oh and as per previous posts the ticker is past its sell by date.

Congratulations!! She looks wonderful..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stand by for the next couple of weeks to go ever so slowly.....

Are they KAMD300's (285hp) volvos? I have skippered one of these on charter many times, customers had much fun of her. Observations, shes pretty wet in a head sea so take your waterproofs.

Will slow a lot with dirty bum as I suppose most boats do. Need to trim her right to get the speed, though 32knts sounds pretty good to me.

This one had a few problems with the electronic controls, and lots of leg roblems. Though of course thats not Gobbi just legs in general.

Yes they are 285's, I would have preferred the D6's but can't afford a nearly new one.

As for a wet ride, we have done all our boating in sports cruisers, and are used to getting wet, (I don't know many that are dry in a head sea.

As for the problems I would be interested to hear more about these, even if it's just to bring me back to earth.

Lovely boat. Congrats and many happy years with her. Was there some historical link between Gobbi and Absolute? The Gobbi internal styling, especially the helm seems more Astin Martin and Jaguarish than Imprezza boy racer. The Gobbi is classey.

Absolute - Gobbi connection
2001 - the design team which did the 425 SC opened Absolute after differences with Azimut Benetti who bought Gobbi
2003 - Angelo Gobbi and family is part of the Absolute holding

Mr. Gobbi and his team used to design most of his boats, the Atlantis 47 in fact was designed by the Gobbi design team

No love lost from what I understand which is good for the boat buying public.

I know of one Gobbi/Atlantis client who is considering a large Absolute.

He is being offered super deals to stay put.

Guess Gobbi/Atlantis are getting a bit jittery of the new kid on the block - or across the road in this instance /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

what I never understood from Azimut after the change in the brand marketing from Gobbi to Atlantis was why this buy out...
they could open a factory of there own with the Atlantis brand straight away....
what I know is that they had interest in the chain production system of Gobbi which was the best in Europe at the time of the buy out, but they could have copied/developed the system or no?!!?!
I have also been told that the building of some Atlantis 50 & 55 was being done in Torino as they where at full production levels at 200 boats per year in Piacenza
