A dead run down Alderney Race?

My longstanding passage plan to go Lym to StPP in one has me going down the Alderney race in about 7knots of tide and now the forecast is suggesting 20+ knots of wind right up our chuff.
Tide and wind in the same direction - what could be better.

I am not keen on a being on a dead run at the best of times, and am concerned about the likely sea conditions. Gybe preventer will be rigged, or maybe genoa only.
One of the best sails I've had was a run from 10nm S of Start Pt to Poole in 25 knots of wind - 77 odd miles in 12hrs. Forget the Main, as I recall you have an inner fore-stay so you must have something to hang on it. You don't have to go 'dead' down wind, angle off a bit and pole out the windward sail on the inner fore-stay, you will love it.
