We just returned from a holiday in the Antibes/Juan-les-Pins. We got to enjoy varying spring weather from a bit of a storm to beautiful sunshine with a very gentle wind. On one particularly nice day we decided to hire a RIB and explore the Golfe Juan area and visit the Lerins Islands.
We hired the rib from Dream Yachting in Port Gallice from where we pottered to Cannes for a spin around the old port. From there we continued to the Iles de Lerins and the southern of the two islands, Ile Saint-Honorat. It being mid week, it was pretty quiet, so we decided to head inside the little breakwater sheltered basin on the north shore of the island. For some reason, the rib didn’t have a one single mooring line, so I had to take the straps from the bimini to secure the stern to the concrete jetty. It was a very calm day so no problems there.
My daughter having a go at the helm.
Our ride for the day.
After a lunch at the ‘la tunnel’ we visited the ‘Abbaye de Lerins’, a beautiful old monastery.
The beautiful monuments are very visible around the island.
Around 30 Cistercian monks still live in the monastery today (not pictured).
The vieux monastery.
The locals were having a day out at the port.
Despite it being early in the season, there were around ten or so boats anchored between the islands. A very popular spot in the summer, I'm told. It was busy when we stopped for a dive in the beautifully clear waters during the Forum Dive Cruise.
We then did a spin around the south side of the island, which gave me a change to open up the throttles and enjoy the residual swell from an earlier storm. We then slowly made our way back to Golfe Juan where we did an another spin around the port and refuelled (only 33 litres) before heading back to Port Gallice at sunset.
A day we won’t forget in a hurry.
Thanks.
