1.) The shower pump

Decide to replace the sticky float switch. Kill the shore power, turn off both battery switches. Cut the old one away. Mount new one. Get out soldering iron. First wire joins fine. Second wire, hmmm, why is the tip of my soldering iron sparking? Keep soldering. Power back up, and the shower pump now doesn't work at all, nor the radio  Spend ages looking around the S28, and eventually find a tiny popped-out breaker marked "shower pump". Reset, and all is well.

Lessons learnt: The soldering iron is earthed. The shower pump is live even when the batteries are isolated on an S28. If the shower pump breaker trips, you lose the radio as well!

2.) "Galley"

During a previous boat visit, I had turned off the various shore power breakers. I wasn't sure which ones I had turned off, so just to be on the safe side I turned them all back on again.

Today, I happened to look in the fridge :eek::eek:

It turns out that the "Galley" switch powers the fridge up even if the "Fridge" switch is set to off.

Lesson learnt: Trying to recreate Superman's home on your boat takes several months.

The fridges are very shall we say efficient, I have spent many hours defrosting them.
