A conundrum for today

Was it in Turkey? ( Just remembering the film Midnight Express) Shame you didn't find it earlier in the trip- you could have got rid of the evidence so to speak. Do you think the new drink-boating legislation will also cover being stoned at the helm-"wow- look at that Buoy- it's so yellow"

If it had been Malaysia then you may not be posting here or anywhere else. They take a very strong view of drugs and I suspect other countries do. On the entry forms it states

BE FOREWARNED DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKERS UNDER MALAYSIAN LAW

I went travelling through South East Asia years ago and also remember seeing the border signs, including pictures of hangmans nooses. Even thought I knew ouf luggage was fine, we still ended up unpacking and repacking. Funniest bit was when I took my guitar through in its hard case. The very serious looking offical said " Is there a guitar in there?"- My reply "yes". " Are you carrying any drugs in there?" My reply "No" He replies " Fine, carry on". It's a bit like American Immigration forms with questions like " Are you a terrorist?" Is the rest of the world relying on and honesty system now?

Depends on the country really... If you were in holland then celebrate the free gift one of your guests has left you and invite neighbouring sailors over for a "shmoke", but if in malaysia or other countries with strict laws about it, first dispose of it, then hunt down the stupid b******d and let em have the cat 'o nine tails.

On a more serious point, I would feel very put out that somebody had brought such things aboard without your knowledge (after all, some people find it acceptable), surely being on somebodies boat requires at least the same level of decorum as staying in someones house...

Re: Your right

who knows what house guests bring when they visit.

The problem, particularly for charter skippers, is you don't know the people you're with very well. People who took drugs used to be quite distinctive. Today it could be your bank manager or anyone.

But who knows anyone really?

another idea

well, almost mite be my bank manager but anyway, i wonder if perhaps you are taking this very badly? Perhaps your charter guests have mistaken you for a wilder and more bohemian type who would be very PLEASED to find a small stash as a little thankyou? Maybe. In a less flattering light, the altyernative might be that they guessed from various boat manoevres that you just MUST be on drugs, and/or were suffering from withdrawal.

Best would be to ringem up and thank them very roundly for their kindly leaving present, which will either flummox them (if they left it) or be quite appropriate if they really did mean to leave it for you....and continue that sadly, these days, controlled substances aren't allowed on board boats at all, hence a more approriate and conventional gratuity is a proportion of the charter fee usually 10%....oh, it ISN'T anything to do with them? well then inform them you will do the same as with all lost property and hand it in to the local police station...

Sorry, whats your dilemma? Whether to smoke it yourself or not? I know I would! I tend to complain if people don't bring their stashes on board.

swmbo found she had an ancient micro-stash from fiteen years ago. Anyway, it was rubbish gear, as i explained to her whilst whilst lying down on the front driveway one evening....
