A change in direction

Having put our S34 on the market just as lockdown kicked in we had thought that changing the boat was probably going to be unlikely, which at the time was disappointing as we were planning a change in direction and with retirement in mind we had our eye on a Nordic Tug 32, which we had viewed in January. As lockdown started to lift things were unexpectedly buoyant and we found a buyer and once the deal looked secure we contacted the Broker to make an offer on the Nordic, only to be advised that it had just gone under offer.

Undeterred, SWMBO got online and knowing that I have always liked Hardy’s, which aren’t entirely dissimilar to the Nordic, she came up with three options, one of which was in our marina! As luck would have it that too had just gone under offer so it was off to the south coast.

Following survey last week and engine survey and sea trial with Volvopaul of this parish on Monday we have, today, taken ownership of a lovely Hardy Commodore 36. A proper little ship and despite the rain I haven’t stopped smiling! ?

Now that we have the pleasantries out the way when is the boat warming? :p

Long-term plan is to round the U.K. at some point so a belated boat warming in the Welsh Med would be great!

Bit like me left the VP and outdrive ? woes behind.
Its nice “low revving “ at 1760 rpm or there about s .
I like the gear driven raw water and closed coolant pumps they have , like MAN s ..good bye to belt hassle .
 
Looks very nice and one of the boats possibly on our list as well, will be interested to hear how it goes and the change in approach vs the S34

Yes, the raw water pump system is a bonus I think - only one belt and that is for the alternator. We had the M300TI‘s in our Broom 41 so fairly familiar with them - cooling system is marginal so need to keep it clean but otherwise fairly reliable lumps I think. Latestarter has a view and, if memory serves, refers to them having ‘skinny’ crankshafts as a consequence of them being developed from the old 6.354. Not heard of this causing any issues but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been of course. I like the simplicity and low revs has to mean less stress and wear.
 
Cracking proper boat and basic reliable engines.We had the base M135 in my boat.
Bet you going to miss sorting outdrives every year as well. :)
