Try considering Zenith Distance when its easier to take away from 89. 60.

Can't for the life of me understand why you would do that when adding degrees and minutes.... surely you do that bit in your head... '26.9 plus 35.6 equals 2.5 and carry one degree......'

When subtracting its an idea some find useful...

e.g. Subtracting 19º 35' from 35º 17'

34º 77'
- 19º 35'
= 15º 42'
