Hi all, been working hard over the last few weeks to get into shape for the London to Brighton cycle ride weekend after next in aid of Breast Cancer Research We set off from London at 11:30pm on the 20th Sept so I have taken to cycling late at night to get used to the feeling of exercise when the body's saying " sleep ya fool!!! " , it's been an interesting experience so far :)

I've had fantastic support from fellow forumites on this one which is reflected in a very healthy total on my Just Giving page for which I am eternally grateful. This post is to ask for a little more please to see if we can get the total up to the £2k mark.

Thanks once again for your incredible generosity thus far, my Just Giving page can be found in my signature should you wish to donate further.

The kindest of regards, Gary

p.s. I will be writing a letter to Challenge Cancer to ask that they organise next years event at a date that doesn't clash with the boat show and the Sealine Annual Dinner. I had to make a choice between food and breasts... the boobies won :)

Sorry it's not a little more generous Gary, new mooring fees due, just paid out the moorings at the old marina blah, blah, blah which is all completely insignificant against the cancer fight.
But, I thought it was better than donating nothing, anyway :)

Kudos to you, you're doing something wonderful. Best of luck, hope you enjoy it, should be fun once you've got used to the suffering. :D

Every donation is remarkably generous Murv :encouragement: I've found a way to make the hurt go away when in the saddle, my mind wanders off to the thoughts of ladies chesty charms, makes the miles and hours whiz by :)

Lisa, when you donate as anonymous, you're not supposed to then sign the comment with L for Lisa ya wally :) thanks very very much for the donation, you're a good'un :encouragement: As for the comments about "strapping, muscle bulging, Lycra Clad, healthiness "... only two of those ring true, one starting with L and the other C ;)

Thanks again for your donations, very much appreciated

I hope you guys and girls don't mind me asking this in the mobo section

I upped the training distance last night to near on 29 miles, some of those hills hurt a bit:eek: did a 22 miler on Saturday and a couple of short rides out earlier this week between 10 and 13 miles. Any tips welcome from those that cycle regularly to get beyond the 30 mile mark at this stage without knackering an already knackered body or should I leave it at that considering the 65 mile course is broken down to 4 legs with rest stops between them with the longest being 25miles

Here's the route I took last night, I was on a mountain bike fitted with slicks

You should be fine with that distance Gary. Usual recommendation is to be able to achieve 50% of the target mileage when training. However, before I did my first century ride, the longest I'd ridden was 36 miles so I was some way short but had no problems doing the 100 on the day.

I used to cycle around 3000 miles/Year, I really need to get back to where I was. Long story, but I've not been on the bike for over a Year, put on loads of weight and lost any fitness I had. Starting again on the commute tomorrow though :)

Just remember to focus on the thought of boobs as the pain intensifies and it should get you through :D

Incidentally, they're pretty respectable figures you're achieving on a slick shod MTB. Any chance you can borrow a road bike? it really is so much easier.
I have a carbon race bike that is like riding on air that you're more than welcome to use. I will (should) be at the SBS this Saturday, don't know if there's any option there to tie up if you wanted to try it out?

Fantastic Murv, I am at the SBS on Saturday too so we can certainly tie up to consider how the loan of a proper road bike would be possible. Even if it isn't, it'd be good to meet you anyway. Colhel has also offered the use of his bike a few months back.

Incidentally, I have 4 x guest tickets for SBS which include the option to attend the Preview Day, I'll definitely be using two of them The other two are supposed to be for friends of the good lady wife but it's all gone a bit quiet on that front so if any forumite who's already donated to the Breast Cancer cause or someone who wouldn't mind doing so, there may be a couple of tickets up for grabs. I'll confirm later tonight once I've spoken to my wife.

Sorry for my late reply on this, work seems to be getting in the way of my YBW browsing, I shall make a complaint!
Only issue might be getting it back, I'm a couple of Hours away and rarely venture down to the South coast.
I hope to be arriving at a car park (not sure where yet) at around 10-10:30am (M25 permitting,) I can put the bike on the carrier tomorrow morning if it's of use, please feel free to pm if you want it and I'll bring it down :)

It's ok Murv, thanks very much for the kind offer but I think I'm sorted and must admit the logistics were crossing my mind too as we live in Milton Keynes. Heading off for Soton now so we're up bright and early for the boat show. Will PM you my number in case you guys fancy meeting for a quick chat, it'll be me and my youngest lad. cheers Gary
