Our 17 year old Marine Air chilled water system is superb, however i have had an occasional issue with the chiller taking two or three goes to run. Had been tripping out within a second of start up.
Yesterday i noticed the running current was 17Amps up from its usual 14A (excluding water pumps). Did a bit of googling & the most obvious candidate were the start/run capacitors.
Happily i carry spares so changed them this morning. Very easy, clip in holders & push on blade type connections.
Big difference, running now at 12A, FLA is 11.1A but at 60Hz so very happy with that & no problem starting.
Both caps show signs of expiry. Metal one is "domed" top & bottom compared to the new one & the other has 5mm window in the plastic case clearly showing showing a bulge compared to the old.
Just thought it might be useful info for someone else, cheaper then destroying the compressor?
