As some may recall purchased last year something called a Transocean 36.Basically a typical for the period twin engined flybridge cruiser which came complete with a concise detailed history of its build, ranging from the invoice for each engine right down to the last stainless washer. The boat was featured in MBM a few years ago with pictures of the boat being hoisted over the then owners house onto a low loader ready for the move to owners new home.It took 30 years more or less to finish the job before it was sold on and fell into my hands for a few finishing touches.
Having contacted the original owners son by email received from him the last few bits of paperwork to finally complete the story after 38 years..
The idea of the boat was conceived by Mr Herbert Woods who was a big player in the boat hire business on the Norfolk Broads and although the mould was built by Aquafibre on what appears to be a Bennet designed Broom hull he put it all together.
Testing the hull

The full sized prototype was displayed at the Southhampton boat show and was tested by a well known boat magazine, the boat was taken from Norfolk to the boat show by water.

The test report....and it actually appears to be mainly about how the boat handles at sea ....:)

Am pretty certain that the owner of my boat spotted it there and decided he wanted one
however the price was bit steep,so self build seemed the answer.

Moving the boat in build.

Eventually she ended up here at Essex Boatyards with 50 hours on the engines

.
Can only find one other example similar to mine in ......Australia of all places and it appears to have those same stripes on the prow as in the pictures, there is amazingly an aft cabim version down here on the Medway.
Any further information of any description would be much appreciated.

Radar £650 and ship to shore r/t £530!! That is about £5000 in todays money! Life raft equals £1700, davits £2000. Looks like things are cheap now!
Looks like a great boat. I'll look out for it next time out..... :D

I told you a while ago there is one the same as yours on the river severn with the aft cabin.

Injectors go in on Sat, as does plotter assuming it arrives on time, plus windlass if SWMBO orders it (!).
Hoping for another trip to Ramsgate weekend after next. When are you going to be there?
What happened about the meeting at the dockyard? Didn't go 'cos you didn't post which night!

Going to Ramsgate next Bank holiday weekend about 20 boats going from club. The well attended meeting was about some new legislation regarding dredging which is going to affect all marinas and clubs just about everywhere..

Sorry ash12...all noted ....I have got the memory span of a goldfish.

Well done Fred really nice looking boat reminds me of my old Crown but faster I have 145s what are yours"

Faster ? I doubt it.Mine has a nice pair of non blown Perkins M135 and for a brief (very) period we achieved the heady heights of 17 knots for several yards.......

The hull is basically a Broom with a little prow added for effect.

Haha, ill try and take a picture for you next time im there.

Upton opposite the conway castle. With the De groot and the Tarquin, those three boats there.

There's one in Malahide. He was in Sutton for the winter. He said the Ford engines smoked a embarrassing amount when started (they did) and my engine guy went to talk to him, He reassured him that this was completely normal for this engine which was originally designed for a truck. Nice boat. I will point him to this thread when I see him he may have some info as I think he has had the boat for a good few years.

Was aware of that site. Some of those designs stand the test of time rather well.
Have you found the site showing some photos of the Chapman designed engine room, the engines are mounted in their own little isolated cocoon and the props via a thrust pad on the shafts directly drive the hull and not through engines and mountings.
Apparently made for a very quiet and vibration free ride.

Finally took the pictures for you oldgit. The aft canopy is on the tarquin not the Transocean.
