I was delighted to read in this month's CB that I am the worthy winner of a bottle of Rum. I will be even more delighted if it ever arrives. So while I sit here like one of Pavlov's canine companions, perhaps forumites would advise me on the best, and most authentic "classic" way to enjoy the spirit. Coke anyone?

cheers etc.

1/2 gill (2.5 imperial fl oz) on the rocks with a dash of soda water* and a tiny squeeze of lime (NOT lemon).

* or if you have a sweeter tooth, some Ginger Ale or if you really must some CocaCola.

Not sure what brand you are about to receive, but.....

If it were Bundy Rum (Queensland Diesel), Then a chilled glass filled to the top and some before you add anything, then let the rum trickle over the ice and add a dash of whatever you fancy.

The fact that the glass is full to overflowing with ice will ensure it's not too contaminated.

Avagoodweekend......:)

cheers for all the suggestions. It is going to be Pussers rum, but it is still not here! Queensland Diesel sounds a bit scary.

that bottle of rum...

Pour a few fingers into a glass, add a tiny bit of water to quell any bite, settle yourself in front of the fire and think good thoughts. Couldn't be simpler.

Thaks for further suggestions. Rum arrived yesterday....so thank you Classic Boat. Just in time for hogmanay, with perhaps a bit left over for the midday swim on New Year's Day. At 54% it won't be getting drunk neat. Will see if I can track down a ginger to drink it with.

Prefer pussers with just enough water to relax it. If you are going to add ginger how about a good ginger beer for a 'dark & stormy'?
