Having just got back from Lanzarote, I must say I noticed that the two local marinas there had very differing types of boat and there were three that interested me most - so here's the quiz.

On this link http://www.internetphotosdirect.co.uk/dave.snelson@btconnect.com are 4 pictures, three of which are of a rairly large powerboat. Click the link "YBW - Identify these boats". Can you identify it? It measures approx 48ft LOA (16 paces!) and drive is supplied by two Arneson surface drives with 4 blade props. I think its a Sunseeker....something?? What is it? What engines does it have? What are its performance stats? Unfortunately, its sad looking boat, just left to rot in the marina. It obviously used to be rescue boat of some sorts, and I have to wonder (other than two large RIB's in the marina) why it has been left.

And for the visiting yachtsmen to Mobo Chat, there are two pictures of traditional sailing boats. Can you tell me what types of rig they have? I don't expect you to know what the boats actually are - but all the more brownie points if you do!!

OK experts, step to it!

it is a sunseeker, not sure of the name but where was on for sale at Cobbs Quay in the summer with the same drives etc, it may still be there (was on with Ancasta I think). It looked great to me!

The three-master is a Barquentine, a vessel with the foremast rigged square, and the other masts rigged fore and aft.
The two-master is a Brigantine, a two masted vessel square rigged on the foremast, with fore-and-aft sails on the mainmast.

and if you want to know any others, you can find them from here...

Never could remember all those rigs and as for the 30+ sail names on a square-rigger... well...

I'd be surprised if it was a Sunseeker 'coz I dont think they ever made a production boat of this sort of size with surface drives although they did for bigger boats. Also does'nt look like a Sunseeker - their sports boats tend to have forward facing radar arches and the sheer of the hull does'nt look the same. Possibly, something Italian? Some rescue boat though

Dave,

A bit late, but pretty certain it is a Sunseeker Superhawk 50. THis was built in the early 1990's (was out about the same time as the Renegade 60 and Apache 45 - which both also had the rear facing arch).

It was, I think, Sunseeker's first surface drive boat. They were experimenting a bit at the time with different propulsion systems - the Renegade 60 had jets, the Apache 45 had triple outdrives and the Superhawk had surface drives.

It does look a bit sorry for itself doesn't it, oh dear. Once upon a time (and not that long ago) it would have been the flashest boat in its Marina.
