Who do they think they're kidding!!

Caterpillar, HorsePower: 420, Fuel: diesel, Transmission: shaft, Will do up to 30 knots, cruises at 18 knots at 2800 revs. Uses 2 gallons of diesel per hour ]

I only looked cos I know the guy that builds these things, he used to run a charter boat out of Lyme Regis. Of course this ad is nowt to do with him, but who do they think they're fooling?

My mate has one with a 420 Yanmar, it does 2 miles to the gallon, at 3600 rpm. Someone has got his sums wrong with this one, probably meant to say 2 miles to the Gallon

Perhaps he missed the zero off the end, but even that's optimistic!! I was reading a report on perforance the other day and was surprised to find that a sports powerboat uses less fuel at dispalcement speed, than it does at planing speed, chart was interesting, it observed that a 43 ft twin 429 hp used 4mpg at 12 kts, dropped off seriously to 2mpg at 14kts (does seem surprising in know) and then after 20kts at about 1mpg its seriously down hill to full tilt at 30!! interesting stuff i thought!! I'm now thinking tnat slow is the "new fast" :-)
