It has got a bit nippy in my workshop to the extent that it is pretty hard to get the epoxy going off so I need some heating. As the house is run on logs (just about) I was wondering if anyone had an old pot bellied stove or the like to sell or donate. Rougher the better even damaged will do.

Alternatively any other suggestions. I already wear thermals!

Buy a gas space heater, or for a bit you can borrow mine. (you need a propane cylinder) Our garrage it pretty huge but it heats up in seconds.

I think that is my best bet although I have a picture in my mind of me sat next to the stove, a pot brewing on the top, radio on with a great welsh rugby game,............etc.....etc.

West Systems also claim that you shouldn't use an lpg or gas heater around resin as the hydrocarbons can effect them. However, I don't think anybody uses resin in the perfect environment they suggest.

And thanks for the offer of the heater much appreciated but I have one in work.

Also have a cunning plan involving a gas bottle (empty), a scaffold pole, angle grinder and welder.

Back in action and Jack Frost is firmly at bay. All for free.

I got hold of an old gas bottle which a friend was only too pleased to get rid of, handed it to another mate who is a bit good with a welder, two or three tweakes later and it is installed in the workshop with a length of pipe as a chimney and Robert your uncle.

Been running it tonight with great success and I would recommend it to anyone with a workshop, garage or shed.

Could you post a pic?

I tried to design in a wood burner when I built my workshop a couple of years ago, but decided that it would take up too much valuable space. A cheapo elec convection heater does a good job (the shed is well-insulated) but it just so happens I have a good-sized calor bottle lying around....

Do you think I should empty it before I start welding?

Will take a pic and send it on to you.

You don't have to empty it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It depends on how hot you want to be!

If you are considering it open the valve, turn the gas bottle upside down and leave it for a few days. Unbolt the gaurd and unscrew the valve and leave a little longer if you wish. You the just cut out two doors for the logs and ash, weld in some bars to hold the logs and weld on the pieces of metal you cut out with hinges as the doors. Weld on a piece of pipe, scaffold or exhaust pipe for the chimney and sorted.

You can give the design a bit more effort as you will see from my photo but it take up zero space and really pumps out the heat for very little scrap wood.

I have a crinckly tin roof on my workshop and will be using a Dektite fitting, do a search, which is a heat proof rubber seal to waterproof the flue.

One last point do your first firing outside to burn off all the paint.
