Decent weather and a bit of breeze saw "Peppermint" heading for Studland Bay. The VHF gave me a couple of firsts.

A guy called up on 16 a boat in the same anchorage and asked them to stop their Jetski making wash as people were trying to "make a meal and relax". He got a warning of HMCG for chatting on 16, but good on him.

Sundays return trip needed an early start to hit the tide right at The Needles. Around about 07:00 a french station, may have been Joburg, was working a Pan Pan, flare sighted Cherbourg way, on 16. They hogged 16 for about half an hour.

I also heard Swansea CG offering routine nav info. I've not heard them before so maybe Studland is further west than I thought.

There were three more Pan Pans at your end of the solent later that afternoon.

I frequently hear the french station, and have heard Brixham and Dover from within the Solent.

Missed all of them - had turned the cockpit speaker volume turned right down during lunch, and 'neglected' to turn it back up again - a peaceful sail though !

Yeh, I've heard Swansea before now in Chichester harbour, first time I heard them, it was late one evening, so I called them up on the telephone, they were quite amussed to hear that their signal had travelled so far.

Summer of 2003 (remember it was a good one, constant high pressure) we were heading west for our hols and we were listening to CG from Dover, Brixham, St Peter Port, Joburg and of course Solent and Portland!
