I read recently of a small company producing a boathook with a large stainless steel hook. Can't find reference. Does anybody know? Has anyone used one?
Plastimo used to do one. The company I think you are speaking about were at Plymouth Boat Jumble last weekend. I think they are Exe based? A call to the boat jumble people would trace them; good chance they will be at Beaulieu this weekend.
Have got one which came with my last boat ... kept it for the new one. Makes picking up the buoy, or the rope between the main & pick-up buoy, very easy. ... Get one!
Been looking at a 'Moor fast ' boat hook - anybody out there got one and like it . Is there such a boat hook that makes picking up a buoy/ ring in a fast flowing stream quicker .
Quay West Marine homepage do a boat hook similar to your description and is manufactured for them by a small local firm. The site is down for maintenance at the moment so I cannot give you further information. It also featured in the PBO (?) a few months ago and appears to be very similar to my late lamented Simpson Lawrence 'Boat Crook'- lost overboard last year unfortunately!
Furthermore, they are an excellent piece of kit. I got fed up with bringing up to a buoy singlehanded, in fine style, and then looking like a plonker because the line would not be grasped by the plastic pickle fork I was using. Beware though, do the new ones float? My aluminium one will not, so if it goes over the side thats my lot.
