A bargain for someone?

Just came across this by accident £22,000 for a 43' yacht that over all doesn't look too bad. Not what I'm looking for right now though.

A old IOR boat, all the gear will be very heavy & expensive to replace, the new main alone must be £6>10k

[the boat was painted with red Awlgrip. The finish still looks good on the hull, although it could be buffed to bring out the the shine]

Awlgrip is finished off the gun unless its soft acrylic

She's been re-keeled, I expect the original went down to 8'+. Design? Maybe Frers or Peterson. Palmer Johnson are a class act though.

Does it need RCD if it was built before Jun16 1998?, I'm not thinking of buying this one as I don't think it would be that easy to find a European buyer and not ideal for two handed ocean passages.

Yes. it is not the date it was built but the date it enters the EU that determines whether it needs to comply - assuming it was built outside the EEA, which it was. One of the reasons why such boats are virtually worthless is that they are knackered and the market is limited. Who wants a knackered out of date boat that needs more money spent on it than the asking price just to get it up to reasonable usable condition?

Depends if some one wants a boat of that ilk and has the time to spend. Agree that she is not the bargain she appears, but still for some one who wants to get sailing with a size of boat she is not a bad boat.

She is usable as she is if you do not mind a little make and mend... Certainly not every ones cup of tea...

Our present boat is nor dissimilar picked up for a reasonable price, we are buying new sails this season. Expect to get the best out of the sails before we sell her. If the engine goes tits up that will be a heart ache but I recon we will have allot of fun for 10 years on quite a low budget...

But you have to be living in the US or at least not in the EU to use it - and our transatlantic cousins are even less attracted by knackered obsolete boats that need a packet spent on them than we are - hence the low asking price! You need to go to Florida and look at boats like that to appreciate how awful they can be.

The American market is distorted somewhat by the lack of finance ( even in a buoyant credit economy) on older boats..very few 'unsavvy' cash buyers there IME..
The bargains worldwide are there for those who can work with their hands and are prepared to. Fewer such peoples around but all the more supply of boats to choose from. I would call it-done and priced sensibly- thinking outside of the baaaa baaa box
