90 years old

My father in law was 90 yesterday, he lives in a Nursing home now and has become very frail.

Ex para from D Day actually a pathfinder and 10 years ago was dancing at his 80th. This year he is only just able to stand, I suppose thats what age does for you.

The Nursing home had a party for him and they had a singer who spent about 2 hrs singing to the old folks...... sherry, shandy and cake was the order of the day.

The staff were great and everybody seemed to enjoy the day, probably the sherry helped

Oh well lets look forward to his 100th.

I get the impression that time is a logarithmic scale. it seems to last forever when you are young & continues accelerating all your life. Then suddenly everything falls apart. May your Dad have a happy & contented last few years.

My dad made 93, but wasn't happy the last few months - he just wanted to go home, but mum couldn't cope with the care he needed.

You never mentioned that when we chatted on Skype half an hour ago.

A distinguished man and many happy returns to him.

Mind you, I do recall us talking about him a few weeks ago when you came up to the house and ate all my food. Seems he may have jumped at the same time (June 5th) as an old and long dead acquaintance of mine.

Remember it only starts falling apart when you take the time to think about it.

It must be about time for another mid-life crisis.......

Nice to hear that your FIL had a good bash for his birthday, many happy returns to him.

My wife's Grandfather made it to 98 I think, I can remember (through translation) him telling my wife about how he could remember the Turks when they were still in his village and how the German commander commandeered his house during the 2nd World War, and how he and his family hot footed it down to the shack down on the olive farm.

I wish my Greek was a bit better in those days so I could have at least had a chat with him directly...then again the wife tells me he spoke with a bit of a local dialect so I probably still wouldn't have understood him.

I shall have a beer in the honour of your FIL a bit later!
