I saw a notification for the Royal Escape race today and wondered if I fancied having a go next year.
Reading the Notice of Race we'd need to meet Category 3 requirements:
ORS Section 3.13
Watertight Bulkheads 3.13.1 Either a watertight “crash” bulkhead within 15% of LH from the bow and abaft the forward end of LWL, or permanently installed closed-cell foam buoyancy effectively filling the forward 30% LH of the hull. How do cruiser-racers achieve this? eg a Westerly Fulmar participated in the Fastnet race last year & there's a Contessa 32 in the Royal Escape race for this year. Are such boats typically given over to racing, shutting off chunks of their interior etc, rather than being "dual purpose" for cruising as well?
How does anyone else do it, or maybe they don't (or can't and that's why the RTIR is so popular)?
Thanks
