8ohm external loudspeaker?

Just got a vhf extension speaker, but notice it is 8ohm but the vhf manual says 4ohm - so will the 8ohm work ok without damage? Vhf is a Sandard Horizon gx1100.

Yes will work totally fine. You can go higher, but not lower. The only downside is it will not be quite as loud, but I highly doubt you would even notice.

Are you asking about watts output from a powered speaker or watts input for external speaker?

Watts for an extension speaker in the cockpit from the external socket on the vhf radio

Very likely only a few watts output, would try something like 5 to 10 watts 8ohm, the smaller diameter will have better sound quality but not as loud as not moving as much air, you could try one of the small extension speakers on eBay
