Looking to buy some kedge anchor rope, 8 strand nylon, "10 or 12mm dia. My question is is there any difference in quality, life, strength etc between the "cheap" rope on eBay, or the more expensive ropes, some up to nearly £5.00per/m on the chandlery website from a recognised manufacture i.e. Liros

There certainly can be some difference. I bought a length of 'soft' nylon 3-strand for mooring lines. As soon as it had been loaded through a fairlead or round a cleat, it develops a permanent kink where the load has been. Just rubbish really.
I don't know how you tell the good from the bad, though, other than brand name.

8 strand, are we talking "Anchorplait" here.
I bought a 50m x 18m/m length from ebay last year for my Brittany cruise, its perfectly ok. some is a tighter construction than others, so made up from more fibres therefore more £s to buy.
I look forward to using mine again soon.
i do have some 10 & 15m/m 3 strand on the forsale section :encouragement:

"Abroad" they often sell rope by the kiligram so that you can easily detect the difference between a cheap rope with light construction and a better rope with a tighter weave.

If you are ever likely to need to use your kedge as a replacement for you primary anchor (gets stuck in a rock) I would buy brand name anchor plait. If your kedge is sufficiently small it could never replace your primary I would think cheaper product would be adequate. We do not carry a kedge, we only have replacements for the primary - which we would use as kedges should the need arise - but it influences my comment.
