7mm thread...why so unusual?

Thinking about it a bit more, i'm going to use a 7mm stainless stud. Prob something like 25mm long. Anyone out there who would very kindly rent me the three taps as its blind and some stainless stud 7mm and a stainless nut. It seems such a shame to amazon the lot, then never to be used again, as hopefully its a one off problem. I'll happily pay the postage and stuff in some £ on return for all your trouble. Ps I'm in liverpool. boat in Porthmadog if that helps. Regards Nik

Metric standards have simplified things enormously. The odd Citroën M5 thread only arose because they started using it before the threads were standardised. Incidentally, BA is also a metric thread!

Except the French, the electrical ,the plumbing, etc, etc refuse to standardize.
I own 13 SAE/IMP. wrenches-takes me from 1/4" thru 1" in 1/16 " steps.That is rough metric equivalent to 6mm thru 25mm.
But,I own 19 metric wrenches to cover the same metric range-one for every mm!! odd & even. And,sadly,I have used every one.
I need a wheelbarrow to carry it all & my boat (built in Denmark) is down by the stern.
Please sort out the odd & even mm argument at least!-pick one & eliminate the other.
My rant for the day. Go in peace.
Cheers/Len from Canada(stuck in between)

I spent months unsuccessfully looking for an m7 bolt - the size needed to make a puller to remove the input shaft from the clutch in a mk2 cavalier to change the clutch. Never found one. Closest i was offered was a (lot of) threaded rod (fyfe and mcgrouther, glasgow).

I got my bolts from a local guy who goes round garages and farms with a van full of bolts fixings and screws

I'll probably go to my grave not knowing why Alfa chose to hold the thermostat housing on my engine with three M7 FINE PITCH bolts, when there's plenty of "meat" in the casting for M8 x 1.25!

I had similar issues trying to find M9 high tensile bolts for Brake caliper fittings. I eventually found some , incorrect length, but able to adjust that! I think there is a common story behind a lot of these weird sizes due to manufacturers indulging in "special" tools and equipment only franchises can easily get their hands on!
PITA
