75hp 2 stroke optimax 2006. Oil sensor

Is the oil sensor difficult to Change on this engine ,it has the larger oil tank inside . Removed the lower cowling and can see the sensor underneath held in by a cross head screw ,I’ve heard that the tank has to be replaced? Can’t the sensor just be unscrewed and replaced .? Anyone changed the sensor,? Advice would be appreciated.Thanks Mark

The sensor just pulls out after removing the screw, the problem can be the tube the sensor sits in, it has a magnetic float which operates the reed switch in the sensor. The float can get stuck with old thick oil over time so replacing the sensor doesn’t always fix the fault. If the float is stuck you can try taking off the tank and rinsing it out with diesel to free up the float otherwise its a new tank. You can test the sensor with a multimeter and by moving a magnet near the sensor, it should go open and closed circuit.

Thanks for the reply , Will the tank show Full and alarm off when circuit closed or open as I could bridge the connector or separate it ?

I bridged the wires (closed circuit) and all good no alarm Put boat back in water on pontoon and after a few minutes the buzzer just went off one beep ? Didn’t stay on , then when I took the boat to its berth it again momentarily beeped again once , any idea why that would happen , ? Thanks again for your help .
