Hi, I'm trying to source replacement ventilators, the are nominal 7 inch units, originally solar powered, but the solar bit gave up some time ago.

You can see from the photograph that the diameter on deck is limited by the deck molding, the Maximum outside diameter is about 180mm. The hole through the deck is about 95mm. The ID of the sleeving tube is about 85mm, I don't want to have to cut a bigger hole in the deck.

I'd like a vent that is robust (it'll get stood on), I must be able to close it from below (the current ones can't be closed) and I'm not to worried about whether they are solar powered or not, it seems like a nice idea, but posts on this forum suggest that the solar cells don't last that long. These units are 7 years old and I guess that the solar cells have been dead for sometime.

I've tried EC Smith and Vetus. The only ones I can find that might fit are Techimpex units on the Marine Mega Store website, but on phoning Marine Mega Store up the say units are no longer available (even though they are still on their website). They don't appear on the Techimpex website either, so it makes me suspect the are a dead line. I did find some mushroom vents which operate on a central screw, which you spin to open or close the vents. My experience of this type of vent is that very easy to bend the screwed rod, then the vent will neither open or close.

Anyone out there with any bright ideas as to where I might be able to source 4 7 inch deck vents?

Thank Boathook I'd already looked at that one, I'd prefer SS and for the ones on the foredeck at a minimum I'd prefer ones I can close. I've had some solid green stuff across the deck on my previous boat, with water right back to the cockpit.
The problem I have with the E C Smith site is that there is very little technical info', often not even a basic GA with principle dimensions on it.
I've emailed E C Smith with the gist of this post and the photographs and asked if they can suggest a suitable unit.

Ian,

the closeable EC Smith job has a sliding collar inside which one pushes up to make watertight.

The solar powered version will of course block off the light coming through ( and the clear bit goes nasty yellow after about 3 years, but is easily replaced ),my experience with other solar fans was not happy, noisy worn spindles and failed at .001 of the guarantee expiring.

An option would be to fit a dinghy inspection hatch underneath as well, ideally with a handy hatch cover in an adjacent holder ring.

Why do they call me paranoid ?! :)
