I am planning on buying a Honwave T24 IE - this is a 2.4 metre inflatable Honwave with an inflatable keel, the recommended power is 6hp.

I am wondering what would be the best outboard to get. I don't really mind about weight, just practicality, reputation and generally a good overall performance.

I only want to look 4 stroke as I don't want to mix fuel.

Ideally I would like the outboard to be quite quiet and economical.

Really just want overall advice on this.

Also what speed would it go ?????

Many Thanks,

Hi popes,
I just now read your post about your inflatable and outboard. I'm in a pretty same situation.
I've bought just now an inflatable boat zodiac cadet fastroller 2.85 meter. I powered it with tohatsu 6hp 4 stroke. This is my first boat so I've no experience with other boat to compare, but I think this is a great one. The outboard also quiet, good and easy to start and not expensive. However, if you dont carry about the weight I would reccomend you on the Yamaha 6hp 4 stroke 2 cylinders. Its supposed to be quieter and smoother than 1 cylinder outboard. All this little outboard is not spend many fuel. About 1 liter in 3-4 hours at trolling and about 2.5 liter per hour at WOT
My boat is supposed to achive 32 kmh with this outboard at best condition. But how much kmh your boat will achive is dependent by many factors. I've checked to you at Zodiac website and I've found that Zodiac inflatable in the same size of yours 2.4 with inflatable floor is 20 kmh with 4hp, and with slatted floor is 11 kmh with 4hp recommended also.
What finally have you done with this? Which outboard have you bought? Are you satisfied?
Where are you plan to sail?
I'll happy if we share each other the knowledge and experienc with this kind of small boat.

I have a Zodiac 285 Fastroller with a Mariner 6HP 4 stroke, this is the same engine as the Tohatsu, just different badge. The dinghy is rated for up to 8HP, however *HP 4 strokes are normally 2 cylinder and weigh around 35KG as opposed to 25KG for the 6HP single cylinder. The dingy planes easily with one person (around 80kG), at up to 15 knots (must be close to 30km/h), with 2 people it rarely planes, so around 8 knots maximum. The dinghy is very stable when the V floor is well inflated and the large diameter tubes keeps the spray down, making it a dry boat in small waves. The dinghy is around 38KG, so wheels are required at the beach!
