6-month limit for non-EU boats in Greece

Important information for any non-EU boats currently in Greece or proposing to visit:
http://www.noonsite.com/Countries/G...anning-to-cruise-more-than-6-months-in-greece

Mac - we (the CA) are in mid negotiations with the Ministry of Finance on this. We have an admission from the outgoing Shipping Minister that this change in regulation is wrong. We have got the Ministry of Finance to pass it back to the relevant directorate to review this. We sent them chapter and verse on the euro customs rules on which there are no opt outs. Greece has no alternative but to comply but this will take time especially with the change of government.

We can get no details of the fines however - we don't know if you can just treat the fine as a tax and just ignore the law and settle the fines as a cost of cruising. Repeatedly exceeding of the 6 months could result in a boat being arrested - we just don't know, but our enquiries are on going and we are rebuilding our contacts on a daily basis.

Hi Chris: yes, I saw the gist of that on your site. The Noonsite link I posted above also contains a link 'Greece Formalities' to the relevant section of the CA website. (Which in turn carries a link to the Noonsite page, so there's no reason to fall out of the loop...)

Thanks for all the good work. I imagine the change of government has given you all sorts of new headaches.

Actually the link to Greek formalities on the Noonsite page goes to the Noonsite formalities, not the CA ones. The CA has made their Greek regulations page public as a service to non-members, you can find it at http://www.cruising.org.uk/news/greektax
